25th February

Concert day, at Austad Auditorium, Browning Center at WSU (another University). High up in the mountains today – elevation 4,600ft – and it was a dull day. We just walked out for coffee at another huge shopping plaza (we are out of town again). We saw a large flock of Cedar Waxwings very close to us in a berry tree which was a bonus!

Nice theatre with a huge stage and wide auditorium. The show was at 6.00 and they were a quiet audience. There was great hilarity afterwards because Daddy Pig’s arm fell off so he had to slope offstage and our video operator crept on to retrieve the arm (which was luckily close to the wings). The other actors were having to stifle their laughter. Then the bee fell off its rod! (Part of the show involves a big bee being dangled over Daddy Pig when he is conducting the orchestra, so the music morphs into Flight of the Bumble Bee). All of this passed me by as we had an inverted stage setting again which means I am angled towards stage left, the opposite side from where all the fun was happening!

We went out for a pizza after the show – can’t believe it was my first since we have been here. Very good. The place was empty which alarmed us, but apparently we just missed a large party of hockey players celebrating a win, so that was just as well!.
