Beaver Creek, Colorado

Saturday 28th February

For once, we drove to our next venue in daylight, leaving at 10am. It was a beautiful drive through stunning scenery, about an hour.

What we hadn’t realised is that Beaver Creek is a purpose-built Ski Village, a bit like Whistler in Canada which we are familiar with. The buses had to be met and escorted in through the barrier entrance to the village. We had some time to explore and went up the cable car too. Is this really work?!? Apparently Kim Kardashian skis here, it is quite upmarket and very pricey. The elevation of the village is just over 8,000ft and at the top of our gondola ride it was 8,500ft. Some of the higher runs start at around 10,000ft!

There is a beautiful theatre on site (Sheryl Crow was on last night!) and we had a lovely show, although a small audience. Oxygen was supplied backstage because of the altitude!

After the show we went out again to see the village at night. Four of us sat on a huge outdoor sofa with a fire pit drinking cocktails (well, you have to, don’t you?) and gradually, almost the whole company joined us which was lovely.

Back on the bus, we were invaded by people from the other bus so our bus became the party bus for a change. We played some very silly games and generally had a fun evening.
