Sunday 1st March
The elevation has dropped to 5,000ft (which is still high!) It is a while since we have been in a big city. Two shows today at 1.00 and 4.00, so not really any free time during the day, although we did have a quick walk around the huge theatre complex. We are playing in the Boettcher Concert Hall, at Denver Performing Arts Complex – home of the Colorodo Symphony Orchestra. Another big concert hall with fabulous acoustics.

Small audiences and a bit distracted today – quite a bit of background noise! Bonus was excellent catering provided by a restaurant around the corner. I went into the auditorium during soundcheck (in my role as Musical Director in Andy Booth’s absence) and tweaked a few of the levels, but the sound is great here. The sound technician has a lot to deal with from theatre to theatre, depending on the acoustics of the hall and the sound equipment available. We hear a different sound on stage through monitors and can’t really tell what the sound in the auditorium is, so it is good to check occasionally. We seem to be in good hands though. It was a large stage today but with a large curved thrust which they didn’t use so it still ended up being a bit cramped. Every venue is different!
After the second show we went for a wander. Denver is a lovely city – wide streets, very clean, tall buildings and a relaxed atmosphere. We walked to the Union Station which has been beautifully restored and has bars, restaurants and hotels and a big central hall. We had cocktails on Happy Hour in the Terminal Bar! Unfortunate name, but we survived! There was a sign in the main hall about the Meridian line – the 105th Meridian West runs right through Denver. Time is 7 hours behind GMT.
