6th March, two shows.
What a lovely place! We are on Galveston Island, a long narrow strip with the Gulf of Mexico on one side (or re-named the Gulf of America as we saw on lots of merchandise!!!) and Galveston Bay on the other. About an hour south of Dallas.
10.00 soundcheck so only time for a quick wander locally before that. Some beautiful old Colonial style architecture.

A lovely old theatre again, the 1894 Grand Opera House, and a good audience.

We had a decent gap between shows so walked down to the seafront on the Gulf side – about half an hour – past more pretty buildings. There was a beautiful large hotel on the front. It is a very long beach and the surf was quite rough. Brown pelicans were soaring overhead and laughing gulls on the beach. We walked a long way down the sea front, past the huge pleasure beach with a fearsome looking rollercoaster, and ate at a restaurant which was recommended in the Lonely Planet guide, Nick’s Kitchen (which apparently doesn’t do the “fancy pants stuff” its sister reaturant, Gaido’s does!) We shared Calamari and a seafood platter with two Bloody Marys (shocking, before a show!!!). We usually have theatre catering (often brought in from a local restaurant) with one meal provided per show. This theatre did a catering buy-out, which means we get cash instead to buy our own food. Perfectly timed for our seafood treat! Then we dashed back to the theatre for the second show. They were both lively audiences which was good.

After the second show we walked in the opposite direction to the cruise terminal side. Two big ships had been in earlier. The old quarter is in this area too and that was quite busy with bars with live Texan country music. On our way back to the bus we popped into a bar and had Margaritas to round off a really good day!
