Dubuque, Iowa

Friday 13th March!

Show at 6.00 so plenty of time to explore first. We walked down to the Port of Dubuque on the Mississippi first. It was sunny but very windy and about 6 degrees. We walked along the river a little way (and saw a bald eagle) then back into the town. It is an attractive small town if a little tired-looking. Some lovely Victorian buildings. There is a bluff with houses on the top and a funicular railway – the world’s shortest and steepest according to them, but I think Scarborough’s might beat it! It was closed and the paddle steamers are not running either until the end of April – I would have loved to see one!

The show was in an arena so we were not looking forward to the experience after the one in Vancouver which was huge, freezing and very poor for sound! This was better all round and it was an enjoyable show with a good, responsive audience.

Afterwards, most of us went to a bar and took over the downstairs room with Rob on the piano and the rest of us singing our heads off! Good fun!
