Cumberland, Maryland

Thursday 26th March – Day off with a day hotel.

We are quite close to town today so can walk in. The weather pattern over the last few days has been cold mornings but warming up to mid 20s in the afternoon, so we didn’t rush out but caught up with a few jobs.

We are right next to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal which has a towpath walk of 184 miles! There is a visitor centre so we got our bearings there and picked up a guide to the historic centre. Lots of old buildings and a quaint high street on one side of the river Potomac.

On the other side it is quite different with all the municipal buildings and lots of churches.

Lunch on the bus, then we walked along the canal. Lots of birds, two types of turtles and several groundhogs! We walked across a bridge over the Potomac, just so we could say we have been to West Virginia!

We ate at The Crabby Pig – had to really with a name like that! Excellent Maryland crab! We had crab cakes and soft shell crab. Delicious!

Then we had the first round of a new game of Traitors which we joined in with this time. Packed up and back to the bus to watch the final episode of Pluribus with friends.

A good day!
