……again!
Friday 10th April
Day off here again. It was a beautiful day, hot and sunny, so after a relaxed start, we walked through the Duke University grounds to the Sarah P Duke park.
The University is spectacular with beautiful buildings and grounds and obviously had some very wealthy benefactors. It isn’t Ivy League but is ranked 7th nationally. There was an alumni event so lots of people dressed up in their finery.

Then, on to the Sarah P Duke gardens. James Duke founded Duke University with his tobacco fortune (Durham is tobacco country) and Sarah was his daughter. The gardens are fabulous and are divided into four sections, including a Japanese garden. Lots of birds as well!

We carried on walking, back to the tobacco are where we had been a couple of days earlier, where the Chesterfield sign is, and ate at a Greek restaurant we had spotted.

A lovely day off!
