Fairfax, Virginia

Saturday 11th April

George Mason University, Center for the Arts – two shows today! 10.30 soundcheck and shows at 1.00 and 4.00. Another warm sunny day and another University campus with a lake. We had a walk around and saw birds, turtles (three types including this rather lovely painted turtle) and a crawfish mound!

The shows were both nice with attentive children and a good clear sound in the auditorium.

All done by 5.00, so quite a few of us got Ubers into Washington DC, about half an hour away. We got dropped off at the Lincoln Memorial, then walked down to the Washington Monument (unfortunately the Reflecting Pool was drained of water!). We took in views of the Capitol building before turning off towards the White House. It is cordoned off and guarded so we could only get quite distant views. Next, the inevitable search for stickers which were found at the White House gift shop. I was tempted by the dancing Trump doll but resisted! It was dusk when we came out of there so we retraced our steps to the Washington Monument and saw everything again floodlit which was a bonus. It was a perfect whistle-stop visit and we were back at the buses by 9.00. A bonus trip as we hadn’t thought we would have the opportunity to visit Washington DC!
