Friday 27th February – Day Off!
Usual pattern of checking in after 8am having driven overnight (although only an hour and a half this time) and slept on the bus. Elevation 5,700ft – we are at the tail end of the Rockies. Another nice sunny day, temperature said 7 or 8 degrees but felt much warmer. We started with a walk by the Colorado River and a tributary and were treated to a fabulous view of a Bald Eagle swooping down to catch a fish! We walked back through town and picked up a coffee. We are quite near Vail and Aspen.

Then we met up with some of the others to go up the mountain on the gondolas and spent quite a few hours up there. Great views – elevation 7,100ft. One of the attractions was a rollercoaster ride along the mountainside which was a scream. There were also two caves with stalactites and stalagmites. We had intended to go to one of the hot springs but almost all of us decided not to bother as it was quite late by then. We may get another chance in Denver.

Once back down we sat on the bus and ate our packed tea from yesterday’s catering before going to our room for a quiet evening and an early night.
