Baltimore, Maryland

Monday 13th April

A grey day today but warm. Not required until 3.30 for soundcheck, so after dropping some things off at the concert hall, we walked to the harbour.

There is a monument to Washington at Mt Vernon Square and the spring flowers were out. A few grand buildings round here too. There is a commemoration of Pope John Paul II’s visit in 1995 by the cathedral.

On down to the harbour where there are a few historic ships moored.

The cherry blossoms were glorious here – a shame we missed them in Washington DC!

We couldn’t resist having lunch before going back, even though we knew we would be catered for in the theatre. Oysters and Maryland crab cakes with Caesar salad.

Today’s hall was the J Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, home of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra – chief conductor Marin Alsop! It was a beautiful hall with a resonant acoustic. A scattered audience again but great response.

In the evening we gathered to play games to celebrate Nate’s birthday in the Green room. Venue access ended at 9pm and buses left earlier than usual at 10pm for another long-ish drive.

We have been zig-zagging up and down so much recently – bonkers itinerary!!
